Summer and Winter of 2017 in South Korea.

Places visited:

  1. Gyeong Buk Palace (경북궁 read as Gyeongbokgung)
  2. Seoul Tower aka Namsan Tower (남산타워 read as Namsan Tower)
  3. Nami Island (남이섬 read as Namiseom)
  4. Damyang Bamboo Forest (담양 죽녹원 read as Damyang Juknokwon)
  5. Lotte World
  6. Jeonju Hanok Village (전주한옥마을 read as Jeonju Hanok Maeul)

First stop was to go to my vacation house which was located one hour from Incheon airport. Bucheon Station.

This place has the biggest E-Mart in the country.

After leaving the bag, straight back to the station and I went to Gyeong Buk Palace (경북궁 read as GYEONGBOKGUNG). In the middle of the city of Seoul, is a statue of King Sejong (1397-1450). The fourth king of the Joseon Dynasty. The mind behind Hangul (한글) which is one of the hardest language to learn.

Then in 100 meters would be the Gyeong Buk Palace.

A 6 way street.

The entrance

After taking this picture, they said no pictures. I asked why, and my camera “looked professional”. So only smartphone pictures were allowed. Fortunately, they didn’t ask me to delete the pictures.

Here is where the commoners were staying when there were big feasts. They weren’t allowed to go more than the gate.

Entrance fee: 3000 Won or about $3

All hand painted. Top craftmanship.

The net is for keeping birds away from making their nests.

Didn’t want to go in, so going back.

The city. Near Seoul city hall and cultural centers.

Bus arrives in a 5-10 minute interval.

Getting to the subway. Everyone always has to move. Nobody just stays and chills. One of Korea’s culture.

Back to the monochrome city of Bucheon.

Spent a good 4 hour on books. They are generally really cheap here and with so much time to spend because of the weather, its good to brush up on books on design and advertising.

Seoul Tower aka 남산타워. Most Korean dramas would always have this place in the background.

Don’t pick flowers. Appreciate it through looking at it.

Clean toilet. Plus the flowers.

Cliché.

This is where people sat and conversed. But most of them left within 10 minutes.

Bus stop back home.

Nami Island

Water lilies waiting to bloom.

Statue vomiting water.

Damyang Bamboo Forest (담양 죽녹원)

The soothing rustling of leaves when the wind breezes slowly. The minty smell of thousands of bamboo.

So this is the best place to go on a summer. It took about 4 hours on KTX from Seoul to this place. A full forest covered only with bamboo.

Entrance: 3000 won or about $3

Best place to read. It was winter, so it didn’t happen.

Went to Lotte world after. So they’ve upgraded their roller coaster with VR. I had a VR headset while riding the roller coaster. Queued for 3 hours just for a single ride.

Jeonju Hanok Village: Winter sky

Negative 20 degree Celsius. Too cold for snow.
